Further to the previous debate organised by EIF on Cybersecurity and the publication of the EIF report 'The Digital World in 2030' in 2014, the context has evolved. The hacking of the TV5Monde worldwide broadcast and social media accounts last year is the tip of the iceberg of increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks.

The promises of the Smart Cities – a topic that will be debated at the EIF breakfast debate on 25 May – rely on digital technologies to cope with the challenges of a population that is increasingly urban (75% of it is expected to live in cities by 2050). 

'The Digital World in 2030' report highlighted the contribution of Information and Communication Technologies to the economic and social development:A world of entrepreneurs?In this economic future, where digital tools and digitally-enabled business services make taking a new idea from conception to viable business much easier, faster and far less capital intensive, untold numbers around the world will presumably try.The foreseen unleash of the XXIth century entrepreneurship will happen at the condition of trust and confidence in the collaboration tools provided by the digital era.

To address the trust & cyber-security issues of the information society and to outline Europe’s contribution to the economic & social development, the debate will be articulated in four parts:

• Public authorities' support
• Citizens' voice
• New trends in cybersecurity tools / trust services
• Building safer Internet foundation (Open IRATI European project)
