WiFi4EU: connecting citizens to the new European gigabit society

Breakfast Debate

The Wifi4EU initiative seeks to expand the reach of the European gigabit society by making funds available to promote the availability of high-capacity Wi-Fi connectivity through free WiFi hotspots for citizens who would otherwise be without Internet access.

As the focus on the need for infrastructure for 5G in urban areas increases, the Wifi4EU initiative puts a spotlight on the needs of the majority of EU citizens who in fact live in rural and peripheral areas who should not be left behind or left out of this new age of connectivity. The availability of voucher schemes in the EU will also be an important contributory element. This EIF breakfast will bring together different perspectives to discuss what needs to be done to ensure the successful, EU-wide implementation of this initiative.
