Misogyny-based violence is a growing concern in the terrorism and violent extremism sector. In recent years there have been a number of attacks on civilians with misogyny-based motives and increasing links to “involuntarily and voluntarily celibate” (incel and volcel) communities online. There have also been increasing links between these communities with white supremacist and other nefarious subcultures. This panel will discuss current trends around the incel/volcel community, their links to real world harm, and potential areas for further cross- sector collaboration and risk mitigation.

The panel will gather experts on gender based violence to discuss incel/volcel trends and misogyny-based violent extremism, as a means of giving visibility to a morphing and relevant threat that is not yet socialised with wider audiences. We will also discuss how a multi-stakeholder approach to these issues can help mitigate the risk of real-world violence.
