Breakfast Debate

The review of the ePrivacy Directive’s aim is 1) to ensure the consistency between the ePrivacy rules and the future General Data Protection Regulation, 2) to update the e-privacy rules in light of the new technological reality, 3) enhancing security and confidentiality of communication.

The EIF breakfast aims to explore as to whether the co-existence of the General Data Protection regulation and a revised e-privacy Directive is feasible or whether it creates unnecessary overlap and legal uncertainty. It will also have to be discussed how new services including context aware computing and OTT technology should be regulated in order not to stifle innovation while preserving consumer trust.
