Brussels is on a rapid course to boost and protect its industrial’s global competitiveness and heartland. While Russia’s invasion of Ukraine upended the debate around European security and defense, new trends in globalization – America’s multi-billion dollar Inflation Reduction Act – are affecting Europe’s plans to uphold its competitiveness and become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. In what’s slated to be a momentous end to the Commission’s mandate, wide-ranging policy objectives are on the line: from “Made in Europe” under threat, to fierce competition from balancing the playing field vis-à-vis China and the U.S., to shoring up EU defense and connectivity capabilities while meeting the Green Deal targets.
