Competition between cloud providers is pivotal in the development of cloud computing. While it has been identified as one of the promising technologies for the European digital economy, Europe’s open-cloud market is lagging behind with a slow business uptake.

 

Cloud is increasingly dominated by two providers and competition enforcers have pointed to how customers quickly get locked in to one service. Competition authorities are looking at cloud computing and potential barriers in the market. Several new regulations such as the Data Act and the Digital Markets Act could also attack some of these barriers.
