Europe’s AI Act is nearing approval, meaning that the world’s toughest regulatory market will be the first to set guardrails on the tech industry’s biggest innovation for decades. It aims to require companies to be transparent when using chatbots, while curbing the use of high-risk applications such as predictive policing and emotional recognition.

Against the backdrop of fraught debate, rule makers and industry are beginning to ask whether the best approach would be to work together. If the starting point is striking a balance between encouraging innovation and protecting people’s rights, it will be easier to adapt to future risks in a fast-changing market.

Hosted by the Financial Times and Google, this invitation-only event will gather leading figures from across European institutions, industries, start-ups, NGOs, academics, trade associations and think tanks to chart a path forward that is innovative and fair.
