Every day over three billion people get connected to the Internet.

Cybersecurity, privacy, data protection are some of the challenges that the online environment is facing. A stable and reliable core Internet is a precondition to unlock future opportunities such as 5G and further progress in the Internet of Things area. The way policymakers tackle these issues will impact economic growth, personal well-being of citizens and innovation.

But how does the internet actually work? The knowledge of the technical structure of the Internet and its governance is of paramount importance to understand one of the greatest inventions of mankind and contribute to its future development. This breakfast briefing will cover the basics of how digital networks operate, the main actors involved in the Internet’s architecture and the governance models behind it, with a special focus on some of the current and future key dossiers. It is also an opportunity to meet some representatives of the Internet infrastructure organisations who are happy to contribute to your Internet literacy.
