Kim Nguyen studied mathematics and physics at the University of Göttingen, Trinity College, Cambridge (UK), and the University of Essen. In 2001, he received his doctorate in pure mathematics from the University of Essen (Chair of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Frey) for his thesis on the relationships between classical number theory problems, elliptic curves, and cryptographic systems. Since 2004, he has worked at Bundesdruckerei GmbH in Berlin. There, he held various positions in development and marketing and was also involved in the implementation of the electronic passport and the new German identity card. Since 2011, he has served as Chief Scientist for Security in the development department of Bundesdruckerei GmbH. Since June 2012, he has also served as Managing Director of D-TRUST GmbH.
