Gerasimos Sofianatos is since July 2024 the Head of Unit of the Radio Spectrum Policy Unit, DG CONNECT B4. B4 is responsible, amongst others, for developing policy in the area of radio spectrum and is in charge of a number of files relevant for satellite policy, such as the Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) Decision, the spectrum and satellite parts of the DNA, as well as the Council Decision defining the Union position in view of WRC-31. Gerasimos received a law degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Masters Degree in Business Law (Droit des Affaires et de l’économie) from the University Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne and a PhD in Competition Law from the same University. He holds a post-graduate degree in Economics for Competition Law from the King’s College. Previously, he was Deputy Head of Unit CONNECT B5, dealing in particular with the financing of 5G and backbone networks, including satellite and submarine cables. He started his career in the EU institutions in 2011 in DG CONNECT, joining from the Cypriot National Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications (OCECPR), where he was working as Legal Officer.
