In 1999, Veronique helped found Maks vzw in one of the poorest and most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Brussels: Cureghem Her goal was to help people on their way to inclusion in society and work, through social economy projects and digital skills. For several decades, Cureghem has been a gateway to the city for new migrants waiting for an improvement in their socioeconomic situation. 140 different nationalities are co-habitating there today. Under Veronique's leadership, Maks vzw grew to be the large organization it is today with digital competence centres in Cureghem and Molenbeek, and a focus on digital inclusion for all ages, helping disadvantaged citizens acquire new skills, find work and live together. MAKS also has several social economy projects employing disadvantaged people, such as a graphics agency. Furthermore, she is always making more efforts for digital inclusion, together with partners such as Mediawijs.be or Foyer, the city of Brussels and other European organisations through ALL DIGITAL. Veronique will talk about the Digital Welcome project which develops a training programme for young refugees and migrants combining different creative IT workshops.
